Quick Note: Scary Storms

Last night, my state was hit by a sudden and very strong thunderstorm.  It's currently moving very slowly to the northeast of the US, but not before dumping around 19 inches [update: the total was around 27" of rain] of water in my city and flooding my house in the process.

I managed to get my most precious things elevated in time, but there was a lot of water damage and loss that I'm having to cope with.  It was like a category 5 hurricane came through, but without the high winds.

My current projects for this site are undamaged, though a bit of a delay is sadly occurring with Barbarian vs Olympian.  I'll get back to work on it as soon as I can get things settled here.

I still can't quite believe it even happened.  Take care, everyone.  Stay safe.

    1. Thanks, man. Things are progressing well, so it shouldn't be long before I get back into the swing of things.

      Take good care, too!

    1. Thank you for the well-wishes. Some people weren't so fortunate, what happened here was relatively gentle by comparison.

I'll be sure to, and you as well!

    1. Thanks, man. I appreciate that. I was able to minimize a lot of the loss, but some things were unfortunately soaked.

    2. Any time. Damn, I hope you didn't lose anything too irreplaceable.

    3. Thankfully no. Some of the stuff that did get wet managed to dry well enough, even things I didn't think could survive several hours dipped in water!

  5. Glad to hear you are okay, which is most important, and that you were able to limit the damage. Just take your time, let the stress dissipate, and we'll be here when you're ready to return. Wish there was something more concrete I could offer, but the weather is affecting just about everyone. We're still waiting for Spring to arrive in these parts (still some ice on the Great Lakes, believe it or not), and with the droughts in some parts, it could be a bad summer. I'll be thinking of you while I wait for the trees to bud and the flowers to bloom - that'll make everyone feel better.

    1. Thank you for that. Dealing with things one at a time is a easier to manage, so the stress of it isn't as bad as it could be. I'll be back in action soon, I hope.

Yeah, I saw a thing where there was (mild) snow late in the New England states in late April! Crazy weather. It's definitely time for a gentle spring already.

    1. Thank you for that and for taking the time to leave a comment. Things are getting better and it (hopefully) shouldn't be too much longer now before the damage is nearly remedied.

  7. Ahh no, well the important thing is that you're alright! I hope that you get no problems with any insurance claims that must be made and that you have a hassle free time in general *hugs*

    1. Thanks, man. I appreciate the well wishes. *hugs back* The biggest hassle was clearing out the water. And the flooring in a few rooms will need to be ripped out and replaced.

I heard that FEMA (the Federal Emergency Management Agency) may help pay for things that were damaged in the flood. I'll need to check that out sometime and find out what they'll do.

Want me to round up Hercules and the rest of the boys to help you out? ;-)

*laughs* Yes, please! I'd enjoy that way too much to ever let it end.
